The front carries the dragon in full detail — strength and wisdom rendered in the smooth, tactile luster mutton fat nephrite is prized for. Turn it over, and the stone's natural orange-brown skin is left exposed rather than carved away, with the dragon's tail continuing the motion around to meet it. That rough, original surface is rare and valued precisely because it wasn't polished into uniformity.
