The gourd's double curve stays brushed and matte across most of its surface, its texture close and fine rather than smooth. Two small clusters of enamel break from that plainness, red and green leaf shapes set at the neck and again lower on the body, tied together visually by a twisted rope band at the waist. Hulu, spoken aloud, echoes fu lu, fortune and prosperity, the same old meaning carried here in a more decorated form.
